Sex Sense is the sexual health service for young people in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.
Who we are:
- We are experienced Sexual Health & Relationship Educators, working with young people and adults in a variety of settings.
- We act as a link between young people and health services.
- We work closely with other professionals both within Schools and the wider community.
What we do:
- We provide Sexual Health Education for young people within schools as part of their Personal and Social Health Education or Citizenship lessons.
- We provide Sexual Health Education for young people within Colleges, Universities, Youth Centres and other such venues.
- We provide training and education for adults around issues to do with Sexual Health, Relationships and Confidentiality.
- We provide Drop-in services across Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire area, specifically for young people, offering free contraception, pregnancy and chlamydia testing. We provide advice and information on all aspects of Sexual Health and Relationships.

Our history
Sex Sense was set up in July 1995 with the purpose of providing a sexual health service for young people in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. It was launched as a joint project between the Portsmouth and South East Hants Health Authority, who fund the service, Portsmouth NHS Family Planning Services based at the Ella Gordon Unit and Off The Record, a local youth information and counselling organisation. This Service is part of the Portsmouth & S.E. Hants Contraception & Sexual Health Service.
